Cho Hakkai (mannersplease) is from Kazuya Minekura's Saiyuki.

Hakkai is played by Bry.

Age: 22 23 due to time spent at Moksa

Race: Youkai

Eyes: Green (blind in the right)

Hair: Dark Brown

Clothes: khaki pants, green shirt, white "sash," demon power limiters (3) on his ear

Scars: A rather large scar on his stomach from when he was stabbed by Chin Yisou

Youkai: pointed ears, long nails, longer hair, ivy tatoos across his body

Official Canon

Hakkai is the sweet tempered, polite, always patient member of the Sanzo Party. He tends to act as the "mom" of the group and keeps the other three, Sanzo, Goku, and Gojyo in line. He's quite good at settling arguments since that's about all the other three do. Hakkai is always the driver as well since Hakuryuu is his "pet." Together, the four friends (or so you could say) are heading west on a journey to determine why all of the youkai are losing their minds. Hakkai is a very capable user of chi (healing, shields, and ki blasts). He always has a smile on his face, so it is sometimes difficult to see what is going through his head. Hakkai is also incredibly good at gambling and cards; he never loses, even when he isn't trying. Hakkai has never been seen drunk either; he can continue drinking almost endlessly and never even appear tipsy.

Before he met Sanzo and gang, Hakkai was human. Hakkai, then known as Cho Gonou, grew up in an orphanage and only started to accept people and come out of his shell later in his life when he met Kanan, his wife. Unfortunately, since both he and Kanan were outcasts in the village he lived in, Kanan was sacrificed to demons in order to protect the town. In a fury, Hakkai vowed to save Kanan. He slayed all of the youkai in the process and later had to watch his love kill herself with his knife because she was pregnant with one of the youkai's children. During this, Hakkai ended up killing 1,000 youkai, therefore turning himself into a youkai. Since it was raining on this day, Hakkai doesn't like rain (and gets very depressed when it does rain) because it reminds him of the event. Shortly afterwards, as a way of atoning (though he wasn't really in his right mind) Hakkai almost tore out his right eye (this caused him to be basically blind in that eye). He was forgiven for his killings by the gods and changed his name from Gonou to Hakkai.

Canon Relationships

Sanzo: A monk who "asked" for Hakkai's help to find out why the demons are going crazy. He gets along well enough with Hakkai due to Hakkai's personality.

Goku: A youkai who acts like a child and is always hungry. He gets along well with Hakkai.

Gojyo: A half youaki who saved Hakkai's life. They lived together until Sanzo came to them for "help." He always looks after Hakkai.

Hakuryuu: Hakkai's dragon. Little is known about how these two met, but they are almost inseparable friends.

Kanan: Hakkai's dead wife, and sister, when he was human.

Chin Yisou: The youkai who's blood changed Hakkai. He was part of the clan that kidnapped Kanan and got her pregnant. He's officially killed by Hakkai. He returns to "break" Hakkai.

Head Canon (stuff I made up)

Hakkai and Hakuryuu were off grocery shopping for the Sanzo Party (and what a big job that is) when they rounded a corner and ended up in Moksa University, bags of food still in hand. Hakkai didn't think much of it and simply laughed the entire thing off. He actually told Hakuryuu that he was up for a vacation since the others were so trying at times.

Game Canon (stuff that has happened in the game)

Hakkai and Hakuryuu ran into Fuji, who's showing them to the dorms. Little do they know that Fuji is their roommate.

Hakuryuu has destoryed the room, more the once, when Hakkai became a child because (a) he didn't recognize Hakkai and (b) Hakkai had reverted his his childhood personality and was being a real pain.

Grell's potion dumping makes Hakkai and Hakuryuu change voices... it's anyone's opinion on whether that was good or bad.

Kikumaru goes missing, so Hakkai helps Fuji, Atem, and Linali look for him. They find Kikumaru in a cave and almost die when the tide comes in. Hakkai removes his limiters and manages to find a way out of the cave.... almost killing the other four in the process since he whiplashed them underwater through the cave. Whoops. They weren't too happy after that.

The love virus strikes Hakkai and Fuji leaving the two in love... however, when they wake up, the virus messes with their common sense a bit and Hakkai ends up speaking his mind. This results in a major fight between Fuji and Hakkai. It gets so bad that Hakkai moves off to leave in the woods for a few days. Hakkai's so lost in thought over what happened that he doesn't notice Hakuryuu. The dragon scrares him a bit and he falls out of a tree... breaking his arm.

Driving lessons with Fuji. They meet Eiji and head out to the beach. Fuji almost drowns and Hakkai has to pretty much beat him to save him. Eiji's upset about this and they don't end up talking for awhile.

Hakkai participates in the Never Have I Ever game during the storm. Since he's rather depressed he drinks even when he doesn't need to and ends up drinking basically two huge wine bottles worth of alcohol. He realizes something is up with Conan while he's there and they have a short talk after the party ends.

The random object disappearance makes Hakuryuu disappear. Hakkai ends up panicking and a search party ensues after the dragon is gone for a few days.

Hakkai goes to Atem's sword fighting lesson. He and Kazuki end up with swords for only a few moments before it turns into a free for all battle. Hakkai surrenders, though Kazuki wants to go another round. Hakkai pretty much refuses to fight him until he knows that he wont' hurt him.

Hakkai meets Stan... Stan thinks he's Hakkai's master, which obviously doesn't go over very well. When they ran into each other one time Stan learns about Hakkai's limiters and tries to take them off.

Taste change virus strikes and Hakkai is left with an irritated dragon. Hakuryuu's strawberries taste like mud.

Hakkai goes out drinking with Fujiko. They become good friends. He later joins her for strip poker.

Hakkai gets accidentally caught up in the water condom fight. He gets hit with both water condoms and a pot of cold coffee (thanks to Atem). Hakuryuu then licks the coffee off him and ends up caffeine high. He's not super pleased when Heiji sets the sprinklers off either.

Hakkai helps out a few ~~idiots~~ people who hurt themselves doing various stupid activities. He keeps a close eye on Atem and his broken leg. He also looks after a concussed Frau for a bit.

Hakkai loses his sense of touch during the senseless virus and ends up really hurting himself since he can't feel anything. A bunch of people show up to care for him later.

Hakkai and Hakuryuu get hit by Frau and Kaito's prank. Hakkai's turned into a turtle while Hakuryuu gets tye dyed.

Hakkai gets a new roomie, Castor. They get along well enough and Castor learns that Hakkai is a demon and a murderer. He's not so sure what to think about that.

Hakkai gets into a big discussion with Atem and Yuugi about relationships... and proably scares them both to death.

Goku arrives on campus. Hakkai must save him from starvation!

Hakkai ends up paired with Grimmer for the handcuff event. Neither of them really talk about anything of consequence and are stuck together the entire time.

Hakkai dressed up like Sanzo for Halloween and later challenges the guillotine to a battle of speed. He later decides it's far too dangerous to have around and tries to destroy it.

Hakkai shocks the doctors during the physical by running almost ten miles without being winded.

Hakkai goes to Riku's indoor camping trip so Hakuryuu can have some play time with his kitten friends.

Hakuryuu and Hakkai end up playing Go Fish and Old maid with Flora.

Goku and Gray wind up having an ice fight, so Hakkai has to step in. The truth virus also hit that day, so Hakkai and Goku wind up having a hysterical argument about Sanzo, Gojyo, and Kougaiji in a dress...
