Eriol Hiiragizawa (reed4context) is from CLAMP's Cardcaptor Sakura.  -- He's a cheerful eleven-year-old transfer student into Sakura Kinomoto's fifth grade class.  Except, as it turns out, he's actually the reincarnation of the magician Clow Reed, and he wants something from her.  He wants her to pass his test.

Official canon

Straight from the app: Eriol is the reincarnation of the late great magician Clow Reed. He's much older than he appears, having stopping his aging in order to be able to be close to Sakura when he meets her. He comes to Tomoeda in order to help Sakura change the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards, by setting up semi-dangerous situations to give her magic focus. At the same time, he enrolls in school with Sakura, teases the boy who has a crush on her, and generally makes mischief. At the end of the series, when Sakura has changed all the Cards, Eriol asks her to split his magic between her father (Clow's other reincarnation) and himself, thereby achieving his goal of no longer being the strongest magician in the world.
