Ramza Beoulve is the protaganist from Final Fantasy Tactics, and the recent PSP rerelease, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions.
He is a knight through and through, never allowing evil to triumph and always trying to protect those in need. He is also very brave, although he is also rather naive and gullible. Ramza cares very deeply for people, even those who should be his enemies, but one thing he will not forgive is the strong hurting the weak for their own gain. He casts aside many of his role models because they end up serving their own ambitions, and instead ends up making his own way, free from the manipulations of his brothers, the church, or his once-best-friend.

Ramza Beoulve is played by Lisa (demonrubberducky)
Official canon
(Ok, if you want to really know what's going on, you'll need to play the game...or read the 'Final Fantasy wiki' article. FF Tactics has a very long, in-depth plot, which is one of the game's many merits. Here's the best/most concise summary I've found )
Ramza starts off the game as a 16 year old academy student, a scion of a very well-respected noble family. Ramza, however, is best friends with Delita, a commoner, and does not see the same divisions of status that his older brothers perceive. He always strives to act honorably, even when it means disobeying orders in order to rescue someone in need. He breaks from his family after his older brother murders Delita's sister in order to kill the thieves that are using her as a human shiled. He attempts to keep himself away from politics and powerstruggles, but finds them unavoidable when Delita, whom he thought died in the aftermath of the battle that killed his sister, returns and kidnaps the princess. Delita, now allied with the corrupt church, plans to use the princess to join the struggle for succession of the throne. The two other warring factions, the armies of Larg and Goltanna, both seek to kill or use Princess Ovelia for their own ends.
Ramza, now a mercenary entrusted with the Princess' safekeeping, follows his best friend and ends up joining with him in battle to protect the princess from her other enemies. Delita, it turns out, has ulterior motives with the church and the princess, but allows Ramza to take her back for the time being. As Ramza delivers Ovelia and her guards to her supposed ally, Cardinal Delacroix, he rescues a young man called Mustadio, who bares an object known as auracite/ Holy Stone/ Zodiac Stone. Mustadio joins the party and brings the Stone to the Cardinal, but the Cardinal turns out to be part of a Church conspiracy. He captures the princess and uses the stone to transform into a Lucavi Demon, which Ramza defeats. Charged with killing a holy man, Ramza is declared a heritic.
As he discovers more about the Auracite, Ramza and his army begin to uncover a plot to use the demonic power of the stones to seize power. Ramza's eldest brother, Dycedarg, is a major player in the plot, and had been manipulating the War of the Lions for his own ends. Between Ramza's fight against the conspirators and Dycedarg's manipulation, most of the leaders of both armies end up dead. As Ramza endeavors to collect the stones, he discovers the Germonique Scriptures, which explain the origin of the Lucavi Demons and reveal the trechery of the Church. Because he possesses the two key items the Lucavi conspirators need to summon the Lucavi demon Ultima, his enemies capture Ramza's sister, Alma. In order to save her, Ramza ends up trading the Scriptures and the stones. The final member of the conspiracy, Folmarv, sacrifices himself to raise the Ultima Demon in an Airship Graveyard in another plane. Ramza and his allies defeat the Demon and rescue Alma, but after the battle, the Airship Graveyard crumbles and none of them are ever heard of again. However, Olan, a scribe and Ramza's close friend, sees Ramza and Alma ride by after Alma's 'funeral', leading him to believe that they escaped.
Skills
Ramza's mad skillz
As far as skills and job classes go, Ramza is very flexible. He can take the path of a warrior or a magician, although usually by the end of the game he ends up a master of both. He has high brave stats, and his default class is a modified squire. His weapons include: short swords, long/broad swords, axes, pikes, katana, ninja swords, lances, bow and arrows, staffs, guns, wands, dictionaries, and bare hands. He has some magic ability, although not as extensively as his physical ability. He changes job classes often, and he is capable of learning new things very quickly. However, he never seems to find a role that he feels completely comfortable with (fitting, since everything he believed in, his family, his church, his friends, etc, have ended up betraying him and leaving him uncertain of his own identity). Nonetheless, he works very hard at everything he does and is a jack-of-all-trades by way of pure effort.
Since he has such a roundabout method of learning new skills (job classes build upon one another in the game, so to become a priest/white mage, for example, you have to have enough levels as a chemist), he will end up doing very strange training regiments in order to adapt to Moksa.
Also, the PSP version gave all of the characters more archaic speech patterns (rather than the lolarious engrish of the original), which I will try to replicate as best I can...
Canon Relationships (People he might mention)
Alma- Ramza's sister, one year younger. They are very close, and when Ramza is declared a heratic, she tries to join him in exile (which he will not allow, for her own safety). She gets captured by Folmarv, and Ramza spends half of the game on a quest to rescue her. After the final battle, they ride off together. He was traveling with her when he was transported to Moksa.
Zalbaag- Ramza's older brother. He is kind to Ramza and encourages him when he is still a cadet. He follows his older brother, Dycedarg's orders to kill Tietra, but is not a part of the game's secret plot. When he discovers Dycedarg's trechery and his part in their father's death, he joins Ramza in a battle against him. However, when Dycedarg unleashes the power of the Zodiac Stone, he banishes Zalbaag to another dimension. He is later brought back as a vampire/zombie to fight Ramza, but he gains back enough control to ask Ramza's forgiveness and to beg Ramza to defeat him.
Dycedarg- Ramza's eldest brother, who is heavily involved in the Auracite/Zodiac Stone plot, and the manipulation of the war for succession. He disapproves of commoners, and uses poison to kill his father and his 'ally', Prince Larg. Ramza defeats him after he uses the Zodiac Stone to transform into a Lucavi demon.
Delita- A commonborn child raised in the Beoulve household along with his younger sister, Tietra. He is Ramza's best friend, and later becomes the 'savior' of Ivalice. After Zalbaag kills his sister, Delita decides to change the world and seize power so he will never he helpless again. He aligns himself with the Church, but serves as a double agent manipulating both sides of the war for his own gain. He takes custody of the Princess, and seems to fall in love with her (although he seems sincere, he has no qualms about using her). After assassinating the leaders of both warring factions, Delita marries Ovelia and becomes the new king of Ivalice. (a cutscene showing a major turning point in the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJMoqi0g1RE )
Ovelia- the Princess of the story. She grew up in monestaries, sheltered from real life; her family never viewed her as a candidate for the throne until the events of the game. When everyone she trusted turns against her, she has no choice but to rely on Delita.
Agrias- Ovelia's loyal knight, and the only one she really trusts. Agrias's only concern is protecting her charge, yet when Ovelia is captured, she is unable to do so. She joins Ramza's army in hopes of helping Ovelia. She is a very capable swordswoman, yet is clueless about most 'feminine' things.
Mustadio- Ramza's new best friend after Delita goes powermad. He is a machinist, studying the ruins of the lost technology in the Machine City Goug (a recession in technology has left Ramza's Ivalice in a medievaly world, whereas in the past ((FFXII)), people rode the skies in airships and used robots to do manual labor). He also finds the first Zodiac Stone/auracite, introducing Ramza to it. He sometimes finds machines that can be powered by the stones, including a device that transports Cloud Strife into their world. He uses a gun in battle and has an adorable crush on Agrias.
Orlandeau/Thunder God Cid- a legend in his own time, Orlandeau is the most ridiculously overpowered character in the game. Kind of like Auron from FFX, TG Cid is the old guy who carries a big sword that packs a whole lot of power. He starts out as Duke Goltanna's secondhand man, but because he opposes the evil schemes for the crown (and because he is just that awesome), Delita spares him from his assassination of the faction leaders. He joins Ramza's army; Ramza may use him for bragging rights.
Head canon (stuff I made up)
Ramza thinks like a video game character. When he gets a new piece of clothing, he assess it for its protective qualities, weighs the benefits against the costs (decreased agility, hindrance of movement, having to choose one piece over another), etc. He also learns the same way he does in the game: by taking levels in other, sometimes unrelated jobclasses. Example: to learn how to use a computer, he might decide he needs the skills of an Arithmatician. In order to become that, he will need to practice up on his black magic, white magic, time magic, and Mystic arts. It won't make sense to anyone not from his world.
Also, I have used a few quotes from the original PS1 version, but for names/terms/icons/etc, I have been using the new PSP release (FF Tactics: War of the Lions), which has absolutely amazing cutscenes and voice acting.
Also, just for kicks. Ramza is usually pretty serious...mainly because when he tries to joke around, it usually doesn't end well. Observe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ6irLoX3sE&fmt=18
Game canon (stuff that has happened in the game)
Ramza arrives on a boat after the events of the game, intending to go into hiding with his sister. Instead, he ends up alone at Moksa. Risa offers to give him a tour of campus, starting with the beach and later going to the bookstore to clothes-shop. Ramza finds a pair of cute chicken-print flannel pajama pants, which he thinks are covered in chocobo. He insists upon buying them, much to Risa's amusement.
Afterwards he meets his roommate, Tsuzuki. Tsuzuki is intially wary of Ramza, but soon changes his mind and ends up getting him food while Ramza takes a nap. They make plans to build a tree fort.
In offscreen Moksa, Conan meets up with Ramza to teach him how to use a computer (as Ramza's Arithmatician-training confused everyone else and was taking a long time to complete). Now he doesn't fail at computers!
Ramza is affected more strongly than most by the CAPSLOCK virus. He ends up speaking in caps (aka yelling) instead of just typing that way (cough because he talks in speech bubbles cough).
After Kaito and Frau start hurling condoms at each other and those unfortunate enough to be around, Ramza joins the battle. He tries to protect Lady Risa, but since he yells his intentions, ends up getting tackled by Mikuru. Awkward apologies insue. He eventually catches up with Kaito, but they do not resolve their rivalry.
Risa plans a welcome party for Ramza. Ramza shows up and meets Riku, Snow, Linali, Yun-qi, and Eiji.
Ramza responds to Kaitou Kid's challenge to steal Yuuko's treasure, initially thinking it is a dungeon crawl/treasure quest. When he finds out that Kid plans to steal from people who aren't long dead, he vows to stop him. They end up having a pretty depressing conversation after Ramza starts linking Kid's heist to the theft and kidnapping that led to the death of his friend Tietra. Angsty locked journal entries follow.
Feeling that fortresses are always a safe bet, Ramza agrees to help Tsuzuki build a tree fort. He joins the expedition into the forest to begin construction.
While testing out a new sword in the training facility at the gym, Ramza gets randomly attacked by Tsukuyomi. Cue up battle music!
When Risa gets scared by a storm, Ramza responds to her distressed message by showing up to her 'We hate storms' party in his chocobo pjs. He feels horribly embarrassed, but Risa finds it cute and tells him he can stay for a slumber party. Questions of propriety ensue.
When the amusement park appears, Ramza decidedes the giant metal devices must be horrible machines that manipulate minds and drain their victims of their life. He goes to explore. Hakkai comes with him to make sure the rides are safe and Kazuki tags along for the lolz. CC stands by waiting for something entertaining to happen.
During the senseless virus (much of which Ramza is closet-bound for), Ramza loses his voice. He is mildly inconvenienced because he cannot do any magic training, but isn't too bothered...until Risa, blind, posts a horrified voice-post. Unable to communicate with her because of their respective imparements, he ends up putting a rather sappy post on her wall, which he doesn't realize she will be able to read because of text-to-voice computer programs. He quickly tries to change the subject. Meanwhile, he made a journal post that was supposed to be private, but he forgot to lock properly, lamenting his inability to help Risa and wondering if he could ask Yuuko to trade his sight for Risa's until the virus ends. Kaito pops up and starts teasing Ramza about liking Risa. Ramza dodges the question, but Kaito catches on to him and tells him to ask her out. Ramza, not understanding the phrase, wonders 'where?' He locks the post, but not before a few more people see it, much to his embarrassment.
After conversing with Kaito and Riku, Ramza finally asks Risa to accompany him to the Tanabata festival. Since she had mentioned wanting a kimono, he gets her one from the bookstore and brings it to her. They run around the festival being cute. Ramza is still trying to get the details straight on how one courts a lady in this modern era.
Ramza barracades himself in his room after being turned into a dog during Frau and Kaito's prank. Once he is back to normal, he finally asks Risa out (to the gardens) and pledges himself as her knight.
During the clothing swap, he switches wardrobes with Rhyme. He finds her baggy clothes hard to train in (although much more acceptable than what a lot of others got stuck with), and was rather worried that the little girl would hurt herself with his armor.
For the handcuff event, Ramza gets cuffed to Aerith. He is disappointed it wasn't Risa, but he does want to get to know Aerith better since she is the only other person from his world kinda sorta not really.
