Rebecca Hopkins

Page history last edited by Winny 3 mos ago

Rebecca Hopkins (spell_itforyou) is from Kazuki Takashi's Yuugiou..

Rebecca Hopkins is played by Winny.

-Basic information-

Age: 12 13, by now

Birthday: April 20th

Height: Just under 5'0"

Weight: 89 lbs

Blood type: AB

[[Please note that NONE of the above information is official except for her age and height; sadly, she has no other official information so I estimated her weight based off of that of other characters and then gave her a birthdate and blood type that match her personality.]]

-Appearance-

Rebecca is tiny and cute in appearance, and has possibly the highest ratio of costume changes to screentime of any character in the series, meaning that she rarely wears the same look twice. Even if she has a limited wardrobe, she'll mix and match her clothing and change her hairstyle frequently to keep this up. (Allowing Winny to waste many hours on sketching random outfits for her. *cough*)

She's very expressive and likely to give away her - often very strong - feelings in her face, body language, and tone of voice. Doesn't have anything to do with her appearance, but since I've already mentioned tone of voice, she tends to use pretty cutesy language when she isn't angry (in which case she uses some relatively foul language.) She's also an American, and therefore won't be any of the Japanese suffixes/nicknames/etc. that she uses in the Japanese version of the series.

-Personality-

*lazily copies and pastes from application*

Stubborn, selfish, and has a tendency to be a bit near-sighted about things, but is also very dedicated and resourceful. She thinks quite highly of herself because of her dueling capabilities and intelligence, but intelligence isn't the same thing as maturity and Rebecca is still more of a young, spoiled child than the lady she'd like everyone to think she is. She's incredibly persistent and outgoing, portrayed as Americans typically tend to be portrayed in manga: quick to kiss someone without warning say anything and everything on her mind, not always with much regard to the feelings of those around her. (Basically, she's rude. >.>) Her conflicting levels of maturity and intelligence sometimes lead to bursts of profundity (and/or profanity) that are not always comfortable for the people around her, especially since she is quite skilled at making a point.

Also, if she decides she likes someone? She really, really likes them. Holding a grudge? She'll fly halfway around the world to exact her revenge. To say the least, she is a girl of strong feelings.

Official canon

*is lazy here too*

The first thing really learned about Rebecca is that she caused quite a stir by becoming the American champion of Duel Monsters at age twelve. Her grandfather - Professor Arthur Hopkins, archaeologist - and Yuugi's grandfather, Mutou Sugoroku, are old friends, with Sugoroku having saved Arthur's life in the past by allowing him to win a game of Duel Monsters. (Yes, really.) In his gratitude, Arthur gives Sugoroku his most valuable card, the Blue Eyes White Dragon. Rebecca apparently hears only half of the story, and she heads to Japan to confront Sugoroku and force him to give back the card that he's 'stolen' from her grandfather, saying that it's only right that such a powerful card belong to the American champion. Yuugi steps up and duels Rebecca for his grandfather's sake, and they repeat the older duel between Sugoroku and Arthur move-for-move, with Yuugi surrendering at the end as well in order to prove to Rebecca that winning isn't the only important thing in the game. (Yes, really.) Arthur shows up with perfect timing and explains the whole thing, and Yuugi gives her his Ties of Friendship card. This somehow leads Rebecca to decide that they are now boyfriend and girlfriend, much to Yuugi's extreme confusion when she later shows up again and starts clinging to him.

Like every other character involved in this particular arc of the series, Rebecca's strength is really tested during the incident with Doma, during which her grandfather is kidnapped, their home is burned to the ground, and her 'darling's' soul - as well as just about every other soul in the vicinity - is (temporarily) sacrificed for the purpose of raising a Great Leviathan so that the entire history of the human race can be wiped out. Srz bsnz all around, pretty much, but Rebecca made it through with only a breakdown or two.

Head canon (stuff I made up)

Rebecca has a lot of trouble thinking of Atem as being a human being, even beyond her normal inability to empathize with people. This is sort of implied in official canon but not directly stated, soo... head canon it is!

Game canon (stuff that has happened in the game)

Since arriving at Moksa, Rebecca has been shocked by so many of the island's residents insisting that there really is no way of leaving until they learn what they need to learn. People are giving up way too easily and this has led her to believe that Yuuko is somehow brainwashing all her other 'students'. ('Students' meaning 'victims', as far as Rebecca is concerned; she's come to the conclusion that Yuuko is kidnapping all these people for the purpose of extorting the prices for their wishes out of them.) Going by this line of thinking, Rebecca has begun to assume that every person she meets is either 'one of us' or 'one of them'. Expect her to be paranoid for a while... if not forever.

-Relationships-

Aoko~ A tentative 'one of us', but Rebecca hasn't spoken to her enough to be sure. Could go either way.

Atem~ What is with this guy? Is he going to follow her darling around forever? And why is he so irresponsible? In a 'one of them' category all of his own.

C.C.~ A tentative 'one of us', but Rebecca hasn't spoken to her enough to be sure. Could go either way.

Dartz~ Rebecca hasn't met him on the island yet, and she's familiar enough with him to know that she never wants to. Also in a 'one of them' category all of his own.

Flora~ One of them. Due to her incredibly sweet personality, lack of Duel Monsters-related knowledge, and claim that she's a fairy, Rebecca also considers Flora to be either a mentally incompetent or mentally unbalanced.

Hakkai~ Rebecca hasn't spoken to him enough to shuffle him into either category. Could go either way.

Kazuki~ Possibly one of us, but Rebecca finds his sensibility attitude too annoying to deal with.

Mai~ One of us. Mai gets extra points for being from Rebecca's world, knowing who Rebecca is, and being a talented duelist.

Mikuru~ One of us. Has potential to be a useful assistant. Rebecca will probably end up getting her into some kind of trouble.

Naomi~ A tentative 'one of us', but Rebecca hasn't spoken to her enough to be sure. Could go either way.

Orlando~ One of them. Orlando loses points for being totally unaffected by Rebecca's obnoxious attitude, and for not believing that Yuugi is her boyfriend.

Sakura~ One of us. Sakura is the one who told Rebecca about the price Yuuko demands in return for wishes, and she's also offered to help Rebecca find a way out. (Or negotiate with Yuuko.)

Shion~ Initially believed to be 'one of them', but after Shion expressed wise ideas about not trusting some of the other people on the island and suggested a search of the tunnels, Rebecca has accepted her as 'one of us'.

Tanyuu~ Rebecca's roommate, so she's hoping for a 'one of us'. They haven't interacted enough yet for her to be sure, though.

The Undertaker~ Creeps her the heck out. ALSO in a 'one of them' category ~of his very own~.

Yuugi~ Her darling. Unfortunately, he's been brainwashed like many of the other 'students', but Rebecca is determined to find a way to save him.

Yuuko~ A witch who uses magic to kidnap unsuspecting people, keeps them happy by telling them they're students at an important school, and then forces them to pay her for help, as far as Rebecca knows. Yeah, she doesn't care for Yuuko very much, but for now, she's a bit too intimidated to talk to the headmistress directly.

-Events and Viruses-

Senseless Virus~ At first, Rebecca was convinced that she'd lost her voice due to being poisoned. She's been mostly convinced otherwise, but now she's really, REALLY picky about her food.

-Classes-

For now, Rebecca's just decided to go with the classes that she believes will be easiest for her so she can focus her attention on more important things. (Like trying to escape.) She's currently taking or claims to be taking:

Chemistry

Computer Systems Technology

Mathematics

Physics

Character's Logs
